Subsequent to each treatment the chiropractor will advise you about the kind of activities you can and cannot carry out in order to facilitate the recovery process and prevent relapse. A common advice in the early treatment phase is to rest a little, not to exercise sports on the day of treatment, not to lift things and not to carry out heavy physical activities. In addition, it may be helpful to cool down and relieve the affected site by applying a "cold-pack" or a bag of ice (see icing).
At later stages advice will become more specific. For each patient the maximum level of strain and exercise will be determined. A stepwise exercise plan will be provided and if applicable a specific sports training program. In this phase of treatment the use of a 'hot-pack' rather than a 'cold-pack' will be advised.
